Although I’m not into special ops or anything remotely related to the special forces, I love the rugged functionality of tactical gear, especially when it comes to wrist watches. The main idea behind the aesthetic of the Nixon Regulus A1180-2865-00 Quartz Men’s Watch is exactly that – it meets the exceptional standards of the fighting forces or tactical operations.
My collection includes a couple of G-SHOCKS and a Casio digital watch that are my everyday watches. I like the confident sturdiness of a G-shock, but I was looking for something more stylish, trendy while also being sturdy, and the Nixon Regulus more than matches the clout… A simple minimalistic design, the timepiece is neither too modest nor too bulky.
Built to survive outdoor and indoor use or abuse, the Nixon Regulus is a different breed of watch altogether, coming from the stables of the California based Nixon brand. The Nixon brand is known for building surf watches, meaning highly capable and functional waterproof timepieces that are a hit with the modern-day adventure seeker who does not shy away from the rough and tumble of action sports.
The Nixon Regulus is built to withstand the toughest of conditions and seems always ready for action. That the Nixon Regulus was built with inputs from the folks at the US Special Operations Corps amply shows in its designs. It fits comfortably on my small wrists without the heavy weight feeling unlike other pieces with similar features.
The Nixon Regulus is a supremely durable piece. The digital internals of this watch are protected by a shock- absorbent polyurethane jacket and impact resistant foam between the case back and the internal components keeping it safe from jarring shocks and impact.
I’d say my rendezvous with outdoor adventures is limited at best. But as a family we do go out camping ever so often. The Nixon Regulus would do nicely for any of these camping trips – it’s an outdoorsy type of watch that can surely take a beating. It could reliably withstand the shocks and scrapes encountered given the sturdy way it is built.
The Regulus is water resistant up to 100 meters, also it dries out quickly when wet because there’s no leather or fabric in the construction to soak up the water. Stainless steel case and rubber strap along with a hardened mineral crystal make it tough as nails. The rubber strap provides a snug fit on the wrist.
The Nixon Regulus watch displayed some unique but useful features. Dual time zone with military time, auto calendar, dual chronographs, three independent alarms along with customisable time options make this a truly tactical watch. Another useful feature for those in tactical operations is the adjustable LED backlight and silent mode option.
