Most of us know the Seiko brand as one for low- priced quartz watches. Having a rich watchmaking history that goes way back to the 19th century, Seiko is one among the highly respected watchmakers of the world.
Today, I have on my wrist the Seiko Automatic Diver, model no. SKX007J1-LS17, courtesy my wife Lisa, who, seeing my old timepiece give up on me last week, decided to get a new one. I guess, Lisa was taken in by the style and classic good looks of the Seiko SKX007J1 rather than its status as a ‘diver’ watch. But the Seiko Automatic Diver fulfils all criteria for a dive watch besides being a great everyday watch as well.
My Seiko Automatic SKX007J1-LS17 Diver’s 200M Japan Made Brown Leather Strap Men’s Watch displays the classic diver watch design. It is functional, minimalistic, with nothing ostentatious about it. Yet this Seiko Diver Automatic lives up to its reputation – it is perfectly suited for scuba diving and other water sports.
Like I said, this Seiko Diver is extremely well made and humbly priced for its quality and features. The watch case is solid stainless steel and the face covered with a Hardlex crystal. The first thing I noticed about the watch was the placing of the crown. Unlike other models, this one has the crown placed at the 4 o’clock position, which is unique. I find it quite a comfortable wear as the crown doesn’t press against the wrist.
The unidirectional rotating bezel clicks smoothly into place at half minute increments with the tip of the triangle lining exactly on the index mark. The dial has a very clear readability due to the contrasting colour theme of white over black. Large hour markers and hands filled with very bright lume add to the clarity. In low light situations, especially underwater, the Seiko SKX007 performs admirably well, due to the extremely bright luminescence.
Being a dive watch the Seiko Automatic SKX007KJ1 is a water resistant to 200 meters. It uses the automatic movement thus eliminating the need for batteries and it never needs winding. You have a wide choice when considering the watch band – they come in different materials like stainless steel bracelet, leather, rubber or NATO strap. I am not into water sports, so the brown leather band on my Seiko would do nicely. For those planning to use it for recreational diving, a NATO strap would be a better option.
Lisa got my Seiko from https://www.citywatches.ca. The online watch store carries more than twenty different variants of the Seiko SKX007KJ1. Reasonably priced due to heavy discounts, the Seiko watch collection at City Watches, CA has a lot to offer the customer.
